Evelyn Maxine Mundy

June 27, 1935 — May 26, 2023

Athens, Georgia

Evelyn Maxine Rampey Mundy, of Athens, Georgia, passed away on May 26, 2023. Born June 27, 1935, in Piedmont, South Carolina, she was the daughter of the late Harold James and Vivian Ernestine Rampey.  She was married to Robert Murrel Mundy for 54 years, until his death in 2011.

Maxine was a graduate of Belton High School and the Anderson Memorial Hospital School of Nursing program, affiliated with Anderson College. Maxine loved her family and her church family at St. James United Methodist Church, where she served as a Sunday School teacher for several years. She, also, loved being a nurse.  She retired from Dupont, after a full career as an Occupational Registered Nurse.  During her career, she served as President of the Occupational Nurses Association, which she helped organize in 1980, in order to support active occupational nurses in the Northeast area of Georgia.

Maxine’s family and friends remember her as a kind, caring, and selfless mother, grandmother and great-grandmother (Mimi), and dear friend to so many. She is survived by her children, Susan Ranson (John); Bob Mundy (Milby), both of Columbia, South Carolina; and Bill Mundy (Christine) of Athens, Georgia. Grandchildren include Matt Mundy (Ashton); Ellen Rennebaum (Jake); Nick Ranson (Martha); Carter Mundy; and her namesake, Amelia Evelyn Mundy. Great-grandchildren are Holmes Mundy, Copeland Mundy, Margaret Mundy, Holland Mundy, Landon Ranson, Avery Ranson, and  Louise “Weezie” Rennebaum.  Also surviving are several nieces and nephews, and her sister, Kay Goodwin (Thomas) of Greer, South Carolina, and a special niece, Lea Goodwin McDowell (Troy and Tryg). She was pre-deceased by her brother, Everett Rampey of Laurens, South Carolina.  A private family celebration of Maxine’s life will be held at a later date.
