Esther Allred Barker

Esther Allred Barker, 85, of Bishop, died on Monday, June 3, 2024.

Born and raised in Byron, GA, Esther was the daughter of James Roy and Idell O’Neal Allred. Esther lived most of her adult life in Byron while her husband, Gene, worked at Robins Air Force Base. Esther became a registered nurse and worked as an industrial nurse for over thirty years for the Blue Bird Body Company in Fort Valley. After their retirement, Esther and Gene moved to Oconee County, where they enjoyed spending time with their beloved granddaughter, Olivia. Esther was a member of Ashford United Methodist Church, which she considered to be her church family. She also served as president of the Georgia Nurses Association for many years and loved to talk nursing whenever she got the chance, even during her final illness. Esther was an outgoing woman with an engaging, infectious personality, and she will be dearly missed.

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Eugene Barker, Sr.

Esther is survived by her son, Robert Eugene Barker, Jr., and his wife, Debbie Barker; granddaughter, Olivia Barker Stoddard, and her husband, Jeremiah; and special niece Joan Hicks and her husband Danny.

Private services will be held.
