Early Clyde Hardigree, known as "Clyde" to his friends and family, and “Gunk” or “Gramp” to his beloved grandchildren, passed away March 1st, 2024 at the age of 85. Clyde was the son of the late Early Roy Hardigree and the late Emma Eunice Brown of Watkinsville, GA. He is survived by his daughters, Melanie Wood (Johnny) and Scarlett Mitchell (Stan), his brother Toby Hardigree (Tina), seven grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.
Clyde graduated from Oconee County High School in 1957 and attended both The University of Georgia and Clemson University. He began his career with Georgia Power as a lineman and went on to have a long and respected career working with substations and power sources throughout the state. He retired from Oglethorpe Power Company as Director of Member Relations in 2000. After retirement, he served as a consultant to several engineering firms and local power companies. Most recently, Clyde found joy in his position at the Epps Bridge Kroger, where he was affectionately known as Mr. Clyde. He greeted shoppers, bagged groceries, and engaged customers in conversation, always with a big smile on his face.
He was a devoted husband to his late wife, Cookie and he adored his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Clyde had a passion for gardening, traveling, and cheering on the Dawgs. He was a member of The First United Methodist Church of Athens.
