Dwight LaRue (Bucky) Bliss, Jr. of Athens, GA passed on January 23, 2026. He was born on October 19, 1937, in Macon, GA to Dwight L. Bliss, Sr. and Gladys W. Bliss.
Bucky grew up in Savannah, GA where he graduated from Savannah High School, and attended Armstrong Junior College. He graduated from the University of Georgia where he was a member of the Kappa Sigma fraternity, and met the love of his life, Anna Mell Pollock of Albany. They were married in April 1960.
In 1963, he moved to Americus, GA to begin a career in sales in the manufactured housing business with Redman Industries. He soon managed the Americus and Richland plants and was promoted to Vice President of the Southern Division in Dallas, Texas. Later, he was the plant manager for Wick Building Systems in Winder, GA, and Vintage Homes in Gainesville, GA. He served several terms on the Board of Directors of the Georgia Manufactured Homes Association. He spent the last eight years of his career doing what he loved most, returning to sales for Palm Harbor Homes.
In Americus he was a member of Calvary Episcopal Church where he served on the Vestry and was a founding member of St. John's Anglican Church. He was a member of the Rotary Club, and he served as President of the Jaycees, Toastmasters Club, and the Middle Flint Bulldog Club. He also served on the Americus Country Club Board of Directors.
In Athens, he was a member of St. Stephen's Anglican Catholic Church. He served on the Athens Touchdown Club Board of Directors and was a member of the Monday Morning Quarterback Club and Friday Morning Breakfast Club.
He proudly served in the Air Force National Guard, was a Master Mason and member of Zerubbabel Lodge #15 in Savannah, honorary member of Amity Lodge #731 in Watkinsville, and member of the Al Sihah Shrine.
No matter where he lived, Bucky was an avid Georgia Bulldog fan. He was a supporter and longtime season ticket holder for football, basketball, and baseball.
Bucky was preceded in death by his parents, wife Anna of 57 years, grandson Luke Bliss and brother Larry Bliss.
Survivors include his children Lisa McMichael (Allen) of Dublin, GA, and Dwight (Trey) Bliss III (Cheri) of Athens, granddaughters Bliss McMichael of Nashville, TN, Blair Long (Eli) of Columbia, SC, and Audrey Bliss, Brooke Bliss, and Anna Grace Bliss, all of Athens.
Services will be held at 11:00 am Friday, January 30, 2026 at St. Stephen's Anglican Catholic Church in Athens.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. John's Anglican Church, 230 Southland Rd., Americus, GA 31709, St. Stephen's Anglican Catholic Church, 800 Timothy Rd., Athens, GA 30606 or a charity of choice.
