Ralph Motsinger went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Sunday, February 25, 2024. Ralph’s life was a testimony and a witness to his faith in Jesus and love in action. He was known to all for his generosity and kindness and his love for Jesus. For others, he became the healing presence of a father and grandfather. He brought his amazing memory to an encyclopedic biblical knowledge of both scripture and verse. He was happy being outdoors and active and loved gardening and woodworking, including building a beautiful cherry dining table made from trees from his property. During inclement weather, he was an avid jigsaw puzzler and was always prepared for card games with family. He loved traveling and throughout their journey together he and his lifetime love, Lavon, traveled throughout the United States and to 32 countries.
Ralph was Professor Emeritus of the UGA College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences as a Plant Pathologist and was awarded the D.W. Brooks Award in 1984 for Excellence in Extension. After retirement, he and his wife became missionaries in Honduras bringing the saving grace of Christ to many. Upon returning to Athens, he dedicated himself to becoming an ordained minister and counselor through Restoring the Foundations, helping set people free through the ministry of the Holy Spirit.
Ralph is survived by his wife of 71 years and love of his life, Lavon; two sons: Lawrence and his wife Karen, Michael and his wife Lee; five grandchildren: Krystina, Jonathon, Karen, Sarah, and Jason; three great-grandchildren: Gabriella, Bayne, and Caleb; and siblings Fuller, Violet, and Wade. His love, positivity, and wisdom will be missed by all.
A celebration of life will be held at Living Hope Church, 2150 Lexington Road, Athens, GA 30605 at 2 pm on March 14th. An open mic will be provided during the service for those who may like to share a joyful memory of their time with Ralph.
