Beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, Dr. Ernest Evan Brown died peacefully Friday, February 24, 2012, in Athens, Georgia.
Born February 4, 1926, in Elizabeth, Pennsylvania, Dr. Brown was the son of the late Ernest W. and Caroline Van Dyke Brown, of Pennsylvania. Graduated from Elizabeth High School, he was inducted in the Hall of Fame in 2009, honoring his life-long service to the developing world through food production.
Dr. Brown earned a PhD from the University of Florida, and served on the University of Georgia Faculty, Department of Agriculture, until his retirement. Dr. Brown was a founding Elder of Covenant Presbyterian Church and is remembered as a scholar and friend to many around the world.
Dr. Brown is survived by his wife, Fran Blais Brown; daughter, Linda; and son, Dr. Michael Evan Brown and his wife, Vicki, of Arizona; multiple grandchildren and great-grandchildren, along with his loyal companion, Julius.
Family and friends will be received at Lord and Stephens East, Lexington Road, on Saturday, March 10, 2012, from 1:30 p.m. until 3 p.m., to be followed by a Chapel Memorial Service at 3 p.m., with Rev. Lee McNeil officiating.
