Dr. Thomas Russell Whyte, born June 22, 1936, in Washington, D.C., passed away peacefully on September 9, 2024, surrounded by loved ones. Tom grew up in Bethesda, Maryland, attending Chevy Chase High School before pursuing higher education at George Washington University, where he was an active member of the Delta Tau Delta fraternity. He continued his studies at George Washington University Medical School and completed his residency at Dartmouth-Mary Hitchcock Medical Center, where he met the love of his life, Deborah (Debbi) Johnson.Tom proposed to Debbi just seven weeks after their first date, and they were married on September 20, 1963. Their honeymoon took them to Rochester, Minnesota, where Tom began his fellowship at the Mayo Clinic. Following this, he served as a Captain in the U.S. Air Force, beginning a distinguished career in radiology that took him from Roanoke, Virginia, to leading the Computed Tomography program (CT Scan) at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine. For the next 20 years, he practiced in Hickory, North Carolina.Despite numerous relocations, Sandwich, New Hampshire, remained a cherished home for Tom and Debbi, where he designed and built their family house in the 1970s. They created countless memories there, especially during summers enjoying Squam Lake activities, boating, sailing and the Town beach. During Old Home Week Tom was an active participant in Woodsman's day, horseshoes and at the annual Sandwich Fair, where Tom was a familiar figure on top of parade floats with his woodsman day friends. He was also a dedicated Mason, attending meetings at Red Mountain Lodge #68.After Debbi's passing, Tom made several visits back to Sandwich before settling in Greensboro, Georgia, for the remainder of his life.He was preceded in death by his parents, Russell and Meta Whyte, and his beloved wife, Debbi. He is survived by his four children, Wendy (married to David Ritger), Thomas Andrew, Bradley Donald,(married to Kara Whyte), and Steven Russell; five grandchildren, Ted, Paige (married to Martin Sands), Elizabeth, Caldon Thomas, and Braelyn Daisy; two great-grandchildren, Austin and Logan Sands; and his sister-in-law Barbara Kerr, along with her children Fritz, Debbi and Lee.
A memorial service will be held at Elm Hill Cemetery in Sandwich, NH, on October 12, 2024. Friends are invited to calling hours at the Corner House Inn from 4:30 to 7:00 PM that day. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Tom and Debbi's memory to the Squam Lakes Association.

Tom was a devoted dog lover, often surrounded by golden retrievers and rescue dogs, and he cherished time with his grandchildren and their pets. His legacy of love, compassion, and commitment to his family and profession will forever be remembered.
