Doris W. Tolbert, a beloved mother, sister, and grandmother, passed away peacefully on December 23, 2025, in Athens, Georgia. Born on January 7, 1945, in Grayson, Georgia, Doris brought joy, love, and warmth to everyone who was fortunate enough to know her. Doris retired from the Madison County Senior Center, where she made a lasting impact on the community she served. Her commitment to helping others never went unnoticed, and her legacy will forever live on in the hearts of those she touched. A woman of deep faith, Doris attended Tuckston United Methodist Church and regularly participated in church services at Wesley Woods, finding solace and connection in her community. Doris found immense joy in the simple pleasures of life—her love for birds and flowers reflected her appreciation for the beauty surrounding her. She was an excellent cook and baker, often filling her home with delicious aromas and treats, delighting her family and friends with her culinary skills. Above all, Doris adored her grandchildren, cherishing every moment spent with them as they grew up. She is survived by her daughter Angela Denise (Scottie) McCarty, her sons Russell David (Susan) Tolbert and Andrew Scott (Allison) Tolbert, and her sister Faye Baker. Doris was a proud grandmother to her grandchildren Eli McCarty, Hayes McCarty, Lauren Tolbert (Matthew) McCoy, Alison Tolbert (Max) McCroskey, and Ella Tolbert, and was also the cherished great-grandmother of Emery McCoy. Each of them carries a piece of her heart and the lessons she imparted throughout their lives. Doris was preceded in death by her beloved mother, Helen Waters Shelton. Her absence will be profoundly felt, yet her spirit will forever shine brightly in the memories and stories shared among those she loved. A visitation will be held on December 28, 2025, from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM, followed by a Celebration of Life at 4:00 PM at Lord & Stephens Funeral Home in Athens, Georgia. Family and friends are invited to join together to honor the life of Doris W. Tolbert, celebrating her legacy of love, laughter, and kindness.
