Donny N. Sorrow, 65, of Athens, Georgia died surrounded by loved ones on December 7th.
Donny is the oldest son of Norman Sorrow and Janie Sorrow Whisnant. He is survived by his daughter Shannon Patricia (Greg) Hester and grandsons Patrick Jackson and Brendan James. Daughter Erin Eileen (Jon) White and grandsons Brody Donavan and Connor Evan. His sister Susan (Nathaniel) Hobbs and sister Greta (James) Blackwell. Nieces Ashley and Brittany, Nephews Tyler, Cody and Joshua. Grand-nieces Karma, Trinity, Riley and grand-nephew Jordyn. Donny was preceded in death by his siblings Tommie Sorrow, Dennis Sorrow, and Nora Yvonne Sorrow, and niece Nicole Anthony.
Donny retired from the US Army as a Sergeant First Class (E7). During his Army career he went through jump school at Ft. Benning. As a paratrooper he was first stationed with the 82nd Airborne Division at Ft. Bragg, North Carolina, and then onto Ft. Bliss, Texas. Donny ultimately served at posts around the world including Germany and Korea. In 1991, Donny was deployed for Operation Desert Storm.
Donny loved to garden, was a wonderful cook, skilled in construction, and was beginning to develop his talents as an artisan woodworker. His true joy in life was family. He would beam with pride whenever he spent time with his grandsons or watched them on a football field. He was generous, loving, kind-spirited and could magically put a smile on the face of anyone he encountered. He will be missed every day by his family and friends, but his legacy, and especially his shenanigans, will be talked about for generations.
Donny’s final resting place will be in the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, Georgia.
