Dave was born in Twin Falls, Idaho on September 14, 1934. He was the son of Robert Kyle Anderson and Margaret Elizabeth Prewitt Anderson. Dave was raised on an irrigated crop and livestock farm in the Snake River Valley in Southern Idaho. He attended the University of Idaho, Washington State University and the University of Wisconsin - receiving his B.S,, DVM., MS and Phd degrees. While in graduate school at the University of Wisconsin he met and married the love of his life, Janice Gale Schmied. Dave is survived by his wife Gale and their two children, Kathryn Lynn Trettel (Michael) and Christopher Kyle Anderson (Deena) and four grandchildren, Win Hart, Ansley Hart, Haleigh Jane Anderson, Kinzer Trettel.
Dave served in the U.S. Army stationed at the Meat and Dairy Hygiene School in Chicago, Illinois. Following graduation Dave joined the faculty of the University of Wisconsin in the Veterinary Science Department and as Assistant Director of the Biotron a controlled environment research facility for both plants and animals.
In 1969 the Andersons moved to Athens, Georgia where Dave was Director of the Poultry Diagnostic Research Center in the College of Veterinary Medicine. He later became the Associate Dean for Research and Graduate Affairs and in 1975 was appointed Dean of the College, a position he held until his retirement in 1996.
Dave was a diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Microbiologists and a founding Diplomate of the American College of Poultry Veterinarians. He served as editor of the Journal of Avian Diseases from 1973 to 1994. He was named Georgia Veterinarian of the year in 1980 by the Georgia Veterinary Medical Association. He was also awarded the Distinguished Alumnus Award by Washington State University.
Dave was a member of various social, fraternal, scientific and professional organizations.
Dave hopes to be remembered by his friends and colleagues for his sense of humor and political incorrectness. Remember the good times.
