Daniel Arthur Hallenbeck

Daniel Arthur Hallenbeck, "Dan," 83, of Watkinsville, passed away on April 14, 2026. Born on December 7, 1942, he was the son of the late George Arthur Hallenbeck and Louella Beth Hallenbeck.

Dan graduated from West Delaware County Consolidated School in Manchester, Iowa in 1960. He went on to earn a bachelors degree in Junior High Social studies from the Universty of Northern Iowa in 1964, a Masters in Student Personnel Administration at Michigan State University in 1965 and a PHD in Administration of Higher Education in 1974 from Iowa State University. Dan came to the University of Georgia in 1975 where he served as Director of Student Housing from 1975 to 1990 and Associate Vice President for Student Affairs from 1990 to 1997 when he retired. He was a national leader in the Student Housing profession.

Dan and Carolyn enjoyed 60 years of marriage. He loved his children and grandchildren and was extremely proud of the people they have become. Throughout their marriage Dan and Carolyn enjoyed camping and traveling, and especially enjoyed their years RVing including traveling the country eight years full time.

A man of strong faith he served in leadership in several churches. He was greatly loved by his wife, children and grandchildren. He had a great sense of humor and spread joy wherever he went. He will be greatly missed.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Bonnie Sullivan, Al Miller, Gayle Westemier.

Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Hallenbeck; sons, Mark Hallenbeck (Robin) and Doug Hallenbeck (Jennifer); grandchildren, Taylor Hallenbeck (Ian), Grace Hallenbeck (Jonatan), Sydney Hallenbeck (Nick Nguyen), Ainsley Hallenbeck, McKinley Hallenbeck; and brother, Ted Hallenbeck.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, April 19, 2026 at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Lord & Stephens, EAST, Athens with pastors Steve Stringham and Robert Sheppard officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 1:00 PM. In celebration of Dan's life, the family request no one wear black to the service.
