Cora LaVerne Hanley, 88, died August 3, 2024, in an assisted living home in Athens, GA. LaVerne worked for the Madison County Board of Education for over 35 years. Laverne was a Sunday School teacher at Welcome Avenue Church in Oglethorpe County. LaVerne was also a talented singer. She sang with her parents while growing up and continued to sing until she could no longer attend church.
LaVerne is preceded in death by her husband, Otha E. Hanley. Laverne is survived by her four sons: Paul (Dianne) Hanley, Ricky (Pam) Hanley, Mark (Lisa) Hanley, Mike Hanley, and by one daughter: Lisia (Mitch) Elder; three grandsons: Joshua Crump, Jesse Elder, Cory Hanley; four granddaughters: Christy Moore, Heather Hanley, Hannah Hanley, Michelle Hanley; three great-grandsons: Christian Hinsley, Hunter Crump, Fisher Elder; and one great-granddaughter: Alisia Crump.
Services will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, August 5, 2024, at Lord and Stephens, Danielsville Chapel. The family will receive friends and family before the service from 12:00 PM until 2:00 PM at the funeral home.
