Listen to Obituary

Claude Allen Paten, 86, of Athens, GA unexpectedly passed away on December 17, 2025 surrounded by his loving family.

A man of humble beginnings, Mr. Paten leaves behind a legacy of hard work and tenacity with his large family. Beginning his life in rural Missouri, Mr. Paten worked fervently to make the best life for his wife and children. His grit and determination served them all well, working his way to an executive with the Maytag and Jenn-Air companies then culminating at his ownership and continued dedication to H.L. Sims Countertops here in Bogart, Ga. An owner for 30 years, he worked tirelessly until his passing.

Outside of work, Mr. Paten loved life in all its forms. He was an avid sports fan and held season tickets to UGA football and basketball. He also was a lover of reading, traveling and country music - his favorite subject matter naturally being his own grandchildren. He also adored passions he was able to share and pursue with his family; sports, fishing, bird hunting, travel, and just driving around town were only made more enjoyable by the presence of those he loved most. Always a big personality that loved being around people.

Though Mr. Paten had many interests and pursuits, they all came second to his greatest love, Mrs. Mary Ann Paten. He shared three children and six grandchildren with Mrs. Mary Ann, and his devotion to her and their relationship touched not only his own family, but all those who knew them.

Mr. Paten is preceded in death by his parents and was the youngest of five siblings.

Left to cherish the memories they made together are his adoring wife; Mary Ann Paten; their children; Scott A. Paten (Kitty), Jacqueline Mitchell (Dale), and Brent Hunter Paten, and their grandchildren; Carly, Devan, Drew, Paten, Garrett, and Avery

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly suggest donations be made to the American Heart Association or the Georgia Wildlife Federation in memory of Claude A. Paten.

Services for Mr. Paten will be shared at a later date.
