Clarke Autrey Bennett, 82, of Piedmont Road, Hull, passed away on Friday, August 21, 2026, at Comer Health & Rehabilitation.
Mr. Bennett was born in Washington, Georgia and was a native of Madison County. He was the son of the late Grady Emerson and Lois Stansell Bennett.
Mr. Bennett proudly served in the U.S. Air Force at a young age, and he retired from CertainTeed in Athens, Georgia.
Clarke attended Christian Life Worship Center in Athens, until he was no longer able to drive. He missed being able to drive himself there, among other weekly places. Most days one could find him just sitting in his old, white truck reading quietly. Clarke had a love of reading, especially books about the Old West. His favorite shows were westerns, and they played in his room, daily. He was a quiet, simple man that loved his wife, dearly, and adored his grandchildren, their children, and his dog, Bella.
Survivors include his wife, Doris James Bennett of Hull, three step-children: Tony James of Hull, Robin James of Athens, and Allyson Terrell of Hull, twelve grandchildren: Jonathan (Erin) James, Lauren (Adam) Cawley, Christopher (Kayla) Heider, Nick Hakimi (Paige), Jessica (Adam) Koehler, Jenna (Hudson) Sanders, and Tyler Terrell (Mary Grace), and nine great-grand children: Greyson and Carson James, Emeri Cawley, Brees and Brinley Heider, Remy Koehler, Landry Grace and Robert Sanders, and Kayden Terrell. He also had several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Clarke was preceded in death by his parents: Grady Emerson and Lois Stansell Bennett and five siblings: Henry Bryant O’Dell, Mattie Williams, Troy Pruitt Nix, Marie Simmons, and Ramona Morgan.
The family is at his residence in Hull. The celebration of life will be at Christian Life Worship Center, 125 Kathwood Drive, Athens, Georgia, on August 29, 2026. They will receive friends and family from 1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. before the service, and the service will begin at 2:00 p.m.
