Christa Shoup Hofacre, of Watkinsville, GA, was born on November 1, 1959, in Toledo, OH, and passed peacefully on September 9, 2026, at her residence surrounded by her family.
Christa built a life centered on family, faith, learning, and meaningful work. She received her B.S. in Customer Services in 1981 from The Ohio State University. She later continued her education at the University of Georgia, earning her M.Ed. in 2003 and her Ph.D. in 2006 in Adult Education from the College of Education. Her dedication and leadership were reflected in her work as Vice President and Chief Financial Officer at Southern Poultry Research Group, a company she and her husband, Chuck, founded in 2013.
She was a member of Ashford Memorial Methodist Church. Christa loved and adored her family, and her grandchildren, who knew her as Gammy, held an especially cherished place in her heart. Some of the happiest moments of her life were spent with family and friends at Lake Burton and Jekyll Island, on annual fishing trips to Alaska with family, and in Hawaii. These places and traditions became part of the memories she shared with those she loved most.
Christa is survived by her husband, Chuck Hofacre. She is also survived by her daughter, Beth Schempp, and Beth’s husband, Peter, and by her son, Christopher Hofacre, and Christopher’s wife, Karmen. Her memory will also be treasured by her grandchildren, Asher, Ethan, and Abigail Schempp, and by her sister, Dana Cohen. She leaves behind a family who knew her love deeply and who will carry her warmth, strength, and devotion with them always. She will also be missed by her SPRG family of employees.
She was preceded in death by her father, John Albert Shoup; her mother, Paulina Shoup; and her sister, Sandy Crist.
Christa will be remembered with love for the life she built, the family she cherished, and the many memories she created with those closest to her.
