Charles “Sam” Samuel Maness, 65, of Danielsville, GA, passed away on Thursday, July 10, 2025, due to heart complications. Sam’s soul is now surrounded by family and loved ones as he begins his next journey.
Born on June 7, 1960, in Kansas, Sam graduated from Augusta High School in Augusta, KS, where he earned varsity letters in football, wrestling, and golf. After high school, he built a successful career as a master plumber before joining his father in residential real estate appraisal. With determination and pride, he eventually founded his own appraisal business, a legacy of hard work and independence.
Sam was a man of deep passions. He had an unmatched love for music, he’d go to any concert he could, with the one exception being rap, which he openly disapproved of. He was a devoted Harley-Davidson rider and regularly attended Bike Weeks and the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally whenever life allowed. A lifelong sports enthusiast, he would watch just about any game on TV, but nothing came between him and his beloved Kansas City Chiefs. He found peace on the water with a fishing rod in hand and joy in sharing stories around a campfire with friends.
From his earliest days, Sam was a rebel spirit, independent, bold, and full of life. He touched everyone he met with his sharp wit, magnetic personality, and enormous heart. Whether offering a helping hand, lighting up a room with his smile, or striking up a conversation with a stranger, Sam built community wherever he went. He had a rare gift of making others feel seen, heard, and welcomed.
More than anything, Sam was a devoted father and grandfather. He is survived by his daughters, Ashley Lunsford and Samantha Armstrong, and their husbands, Joe Lunsford and Christian Armstrong. He was the proud and loving grandfather to Collin Hitt, Crawford Lunsford, and Cameron Armstrong, and could often be found cheering them on from the sidelines at their football, soccer, and baseball games whenever he could. He is also survived by his mother, Glynda Maness; his siblings, Stacie and Billy G. Maness; and his faithful dog and constant companion, Indie. He also leaves behind many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends who grew to be like family. Sam is preceded in death by his father, Billy R. Maness.
He will be missed beyond words and remembered every day with love, laughter, and gratitude.
A celebration of Sam’s life will be held at Winfield Country Club in Winfield, KS, on August 23, 2025, from 2:00–4:00 PM. All who knew and loved Sam are welcome to attend and share stories, music, and memories.
