Charles Brantley Goff lived from September 2, 1953 to 6 March 2025. Most of his life was filled with activity and many acquaintances. He was a very friendly andsimple person, many times expressing his feeling without considering who he was talking to. His early family life until he was in his twenty’s, he spent abroad or at military bases in Europe or the United Sates, mainly during the Cold War period where the Air Force was on constant alert and flew around the world missions until late 1990s. His father was a crew chief in the Air Force and flew on the refueler and bomber missions all over the globe being gone for 3-6 months at a time. Charles and his family lived at military bases in: Azores Islands (Portugal), London, England, RAF Lakenheath, England, Atwater, CA, Altus, OK, Hunter Air base, Savannah, GA, Wiesbaden, Germany and Rhein Main, Germany. During these changes from military station to station, school was rough for Charles because of the frequent changes in teachers and subjects. However, what he did gleam was his ability to pick up the spoken language from locals. He was fluent in the conversational German, Spanish and Portuguese. The longest stay was at RAF Lakenheath, England where Charles stayed for 4 years, then moved to Wiesbaden Air Force Base to graduate from Wiesbaden High School. During his 9 th thru 12 th grade Charles was active in wrestling and scouting. When his parents moved from Wiesbaden to McClelland AFB in Sacramento, CA he moved with them and stayed with them for most of his life. They later retired from the Air Force and moved to Blairsville, Georgia then later moved to retire in Madison, Georgia. The fact that he lived near them proved to be invaluable because Charles was able to save his father’s life on two occasions and get him swiftly to the hospital to avoid a severe heart attack and stroke. Charles spent several years in the early 2000s working in Florida and then returned back to Madison, GA and lived near his parents until their passing. Many may know the story that Charles was an excellent wrestler and during his time in Florida he joined a circus unit as a wrestler that could wrestle and pin a bear- which he did. He did this for several months and returned to Madison, GA with back problems that plagued him for the remainder of his life. Charles, like his father, was a mechanic/ machinist and worked with agricultural sprinkling systems, various mechanical jobs and collecting and selling surplus steel & metals.
Charles was injured in a fall and the injury led to hospitalization. This led to long term care at High Shoals Health & Rehabilitation in Bishop, GA. He then had several strokes which led to his passing on 6 March 2025.
