Charles Herbert Bond, a devoted husband and father, dedicated businessman, and active community member, passed away on May 5, 2026. Born on May 27, 1952, in Albany, Georgia, Herbert lived a life marked by commitment to his faith, loved ones, and profession.
Herbert was a man of deep faith and service. He was a current member of Prince Avenue Baptist Church and previously served as Liturgist for Gateway United Methodist Church. His dedication to his community extended through his role as a Lay Leader at Arbor Terrace and his volunteer work at Sparrows Nest and the Athens Homeless Shelter.
A proud graduate of the University of Georgia, Herbert built a distinguished career as the owner and broker of Herbert Bond Realty and Investment for over three decades, as well as the owner of Herbert Bond Properties. His expertise and leadership were well respected in the Athens area, where he resided for over 50 years. He actively participated with Athens Area Realtors, and was named a member of the Million Dollar Club in 1988 and from 1998-2006. In 2006, he was awarded the Phoenix Bronze award. He was on the MLS Board of Directors in 1989 and was awarded Most Unique Sale of the Year in 1975. Beyond his professional endeavors, Herbert enjoyed designing and remodeling homes with his wife, Dorrie.
An avid sports and outdoor enthusiast, Herbert enjoyed University of Georgia football and baseball, the Atlanta Braves, boating and fishing at Lake Blackshear and Lake Oconee, and spending leisure time biking and relaxing on the beach on St. Simons Island with family and friends. When his daughters were young, he wholeheartedly supported their activities, from Jessica’s horseback riding to Taylor’s softball.
Herbert is survived by his beloved wife of 30 years, Dorrie R. Bond; his daughters, Jessica (Grayson) Schulte and Taylor Anne Bond; his sister, Diane Marie Bond; and sisters-in-law, Linda Bond and Pam (Tommy) Head. He also leaves behind cherished nieces and nephews: Mary Ann Burrell (Jeff Grimes), David (Anna) Burrell, Dawson
(Emmy) Bond, Sarah (Richard) Shockley, and Shannon Head; as well as great nieces and nephews: Coraline Grimes, Deckard Grimes, Daisy Burrell, Abigail Burrell, Anderson Bond, Davis Bond, and Mary Taylor Shockley.
Herbert was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest Howard Bond and Ethel Boggs Bond, and his brother, Ernest Howard Bond, Jr.
Visitation for Charles Herbert Bond will be held on May 12, 2026, from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at Lord & Stephens Funeral Homes Watkinsville, located at 1211 Jimmy Daniel
Road, Watkinsville, GA 30677. The funeral service will follow on the same day beginning at 1:00 PM at the same location. Burial will follow at Evergreen Memorial Park.
Charles Herbert Bond’s legacy is marked by his unwavering dedication to faith, family, and community. He will be remembered with great respect and affection by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
In lieu of flowers donations in Herbert's memory may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital.
