Cecile G. Maher, 86, passed away peacefully July 21, 2026. Born November 21, 1939 in New Bedford, MA, she was the daughter of the late Imelda Breton and Alfred Gamache. She was the wife to the late Maurice “Maury” Maher.
Cecile lived life defined by love, generosity, and unwavering devotion to her family. As a grandmother, she delighted in every moment spent with her grandchildren who brought immeasurable happiness to her life. Known for her compassionate heart and giving spirit, she was always ready to extend a helping hand and brighten someone’s day with her kindness. She loved to cook, entertain, and spend time at the lake. She successfully ran the family boat business, Athens Marine, for 45 years.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Michael Maher, granddaughter Leanne Collins, and great grandson, Braydon Maher.
Cecile is survived by her loving family, including Suzanne Maher (Daniel) Dooley, Jeff (Susan) Maher, Eva Huff, seven grandchildren: Michael (Maggie) Dooley, Matthew Dooley, Ashton (Cameron) Vulcano, Seth (Victoria) Maher, Christie Maher, Lauren (Jack) Jeffery, Brandon (Ella) Maher and ten great grandchildren: Charlie & Reilly Collins, Lawson & Zeke Maher, Grayson & Clay Vulcano, Noah & Finley Maher, and Jack & Walker Dooley.
Her legacy lives on in the countless lives she touched through her love, generosity, and example. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered by her family and all who had the privilege of knowing her.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to Highland Hills Memory Care, 1660 Jennings Mill Rd, Watkinsville Ga. 30677 or to the UGA Catholic Center, 1344 S. Lumpkin St. Athens GA 30605.
Visitation and light refreshments will be 11:30AM on Friday, July 24, 2026 at the UGA Catholic Center in the Center Hall. Mass celebrating Cecile’s life will be held at 1:00 in the UGA Catholic Center. Following the mass will be interment at Evergreen Memorial Park.
