Carolyn Virginia McGuire Bennett, born May 30, 1932, died to join the church triumphant January 16, 2011.
A devoted disciple, she answered God's call to ministry as a R.N. trained at Piedmont Hospital; a radio gospel singer and member of multiple church choirs; a Bible teacher and prayer intercessor; a secretary at churches and Christian schools; a tutor at Pathways to Learning; a church office volunteer at St. James UMC; and finally a giver of children's sermons at Johnson UMC. Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents R.H. "Pete" and Freddie McGuire, her oldest grandson Jeremy Bennett, and her husband & constant companion Thomas Merlyn Bennett.
Survivors include their children Rick & Pat Bennett, Karen B. & David Castellon, Revs. Kathy B. & Bob Gochenour, Sherrie B. & Matt Train; nine grandchildren and seven great-grand children; her younger siblings Howard & Sandra McGuire, Sandra M. & Matthew Hodnett, Richard & Margaret McGuire, and numerous nieces & nephews.
Family visitation will be at Lord & Stephens WEST January 18 from 6-8 p.m.
We will celebrate her life of ministry and testify to the grace of God at Johnson UMC on Jan. 19 at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Tracy Sever officiating. Internment will be at Oconee Memorial Park.
