Carole Joyce Hurley

Carole Joyce Hurley, passed away peacefully at St. Mary's Hospice House in Athens, GA on June 12, 2017, following a long battle with Alzheimer's. Carole was born February 10, 1935, in Norwood, OH, to Paul and Alma Holderman. She was educated in Rockford, IL public schools and graduated from high school in Paynesville, OH. She graduated from Lincoln Bible Institute in 1973. Carole married Richard "Dick" Hurley on November 25, 1954, and was married for 59 years before he preceded her in death in 2014.
Carole was a gifted and caring elementary school teacher in Lincoln, IL, District 27 for 23 years. She was a member of Lincoln Christian Church, a Vacation Bible School teacher, and choir member for many years. She was actively involved in the annual Harvest of Talents Ministry, Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, Volunteer Coordinator at The Christian Village and many other local activities. Her hobbies included painting, crafting, and spending quality time with friends and family.
Carole was the mother of four children and is survived by three sons: Lyndel (Kathy) Hurley of Athens, GA, Todd (Fabiana) Hurley of Miami Beach, FL, Lloyd (Pam) Hurley of Seminole, FL. She was the mother to a daughter, Melonie Carole Hurley, who preceded her in death from cancer. She was a grandmother to seven children and a great-grandmother to two children. Carole was also preceded in death by her parents and her younger sister, Nancy Holderman Reese.
The family would like to thank the staffs of both The Christian Village (Lincoln) and St. Mary's Hospice (Athens) for their outstanding care and support they provided so lovingly to Carole during her lengthy illness.
A celebration of Carole's life will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, June 20th at Lincoln Christian Church (Lincoln, IL) with Tim Searby officiating. Interment will be at New Union Cemetery immediately following the service.
