Carol Elaine Jones

Carol Elaine Jones, age 77, of Watkinsville, Georgia, passed away peacefully at her home on January 31, 2026.

Carol was born on January 12, 1949, in Omega, Georgia, to Claude Henderson Jones and Mary Louise Chesnutt Jones. She was preceded in death by her parents, nephew, Michael Henderson Ellis, and her brother-in-law, George Larry Ellis.

She is survived by her beloved sisters, Charlotte Ann Goff and Mary Linda Ellis, both of Watkinsville, Georgia; her nephew, David Ellis (Judy); her great-niece, Lauren Childers (Josh) and family; and her great-nephew, Jordan Ellis (Abigail) and family. Also surviving Carol are her cherished friends, Judy Murrow and family, and Gail Leith.

Carol was an avid reader with a lifelong love of learning, attending Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College (ABAC) in Tifton. She had a deep affection for animals, especially the many dogs she lovingly cared for over the years. Music was a central joy in her life—she loved all genres, enjoyed ballet dancing, and generously shared her talents by directing choirs at several churches.

An enthusiastic traveler, Carol found particular joy in visiting England, a place that held a special place in her heart.

A wonderful daughter, sister, aunt, and friend, Carol Elaine Jones will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 7, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Oconee Chapel (Oconee Memorial Funeral Directors), 2370 Hog Mountain Road, Watkinsville, Georgia. Visitation with family and friends will take place prior to the service from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m.

Interment will be held at 11 a.m. on Sunday, February 8, 2026, at Oak Ridge Cemetery in Tifton, Georgia.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Carol’s memory to Athens Canine Rescue or the Athens Area Humane Society.
