Brenda June Cunningham

Brenda June Cunningham, a lifelong resident and cherished native of Oconee County, passed away peacefully on April 4, 2026, at her residence in Bishop, Georgia, surrounded by her loving family. Born on January 19, 1954, in Athens, GA, Brenda was a dedicated and compassionate individual whose commitment to her community and family leaves a lasting legacy.

Brenda was a proud graduate of Oconee High School, where she laid the foundation for a life marked by service and steadfast loyalty to her roots. For 32 years, she devoted her professional career to the University of Georgia, retiring after decades of dedication, hard work, and admirable professionalism. Her contributions to the university were valued and respected by colleagues and students alike.

Family was central to Brenda’s life. She is lovingly remembered by her daughter, Megan Elizabeth Puckett; her brother, Gene Peck, and his wife, Gwen; as well as numerous nieces and nephews who will carry forward her spirit and warmth. Brenda was predeceased by her beloved parents, Edna Burger Peck and Horace William Peck, and her husband, Robert Lamar Cunningham, who together shaped the family’s strong bonds and enduring love.

Brenda’s passing is mourned by all who knew her, yet her memory will live on in the hearts of her family and friends. Her life exemplified the values of dedication, resilience, and care, qualities that defined her journey from her birth in Athens through her many years in Oconee County.

A visitation will be held on April 8, 2026, from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Lord & Stephens Funeral Homes Watkinsville, located at 1211 Jimmy Daniel Road, Watkinsville, GA 30677. Following the visitation, a funeral service will take place at the same location from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM. These gatherings provide an opportunity for friends, family, and community members to come together in honor of Brenda’s remarkable life.
