Brenda Joyce Brooks passed peacefully at her home on June 1, 2026. A lifelong resident of Oconee County, she was born in Athens on October 18, 1953, graduated from Oconee County High School in 1971, and spent her life working as a medical assistant and as a caregiver to her beloved husband of 53 years, Alton. Brenda was a loving mother to three children, raised two nephews, and was a doting grandmother and great-grandmother. She enjoyed spending time with family and watching her grandchildren and great-grandchildren grow. No party or event was complete without a pound cake or Rice-Krispy treat from Brenda’s kitchen.
Brenda’s family meant everything to her. She is survived by her husband Alton, daughters Laura Elsner (Eric) and April Lee (Andy), son Andy Brooks (Bridgette), nephews Travis Saxon(Kelly) and Trent Saxon (Krista), grandchildren Maura Grace Whited (Brice), Wyatt Elsner, Colin Lee, Claire Lee, Charlotte Lee, Braxton Brooks (Skylyr), Kelly Beth King, Avery King, Tripp King, Kayla Williamson (Hannah), numerous nieces andnephews, along with several great-grandchildren. Brenda is also survived by her brother Tim Denton (Carrie) and sister Donna Presnell (Eddie).
Brenda was preceded in death by her parents, Edward Denton Jr. and Joyce Ann Irby, her brother Todd Denton and a grandson, Sam Elsner.
Family and friends can gather to remember Brenda at The Lord and Stephens West Funeral Home in Watkinsville; located at 1211 Jimmy Daniel Rd. Watkinsville, GA 30677. There will be a visitation on Thursday, June 4th 2026, from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. with funeral services beginning at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel. Serving as honorary pallbearers are Colin Lee, Wyatt Elsner, Braxton Brooks, Brice Whited, Travis Saxon and Trent Saxon.
Brenda will be remembered for her kind heart, her devotion to her family and her dedication to helping others. Her life touched many, and she will be missed deeply by those who knew and loved her.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Johnson United Methodist Church.
