Bonnie McCarty Parten, age 79, of Colbert, GA, went home to be with the Lord on February 12, 2026.
Bonnie was born on August 15, 1946 to Benny and Montez McCarty of Colbert, Georgia. She graduated from Madison County High School in 1964. After high school, she continued her education and went on to dedicate many faithful years of service as a secretary at the University of Georgia School of Law where she was known for her commitment to detail, reliability, and kind heart.
She was a faithful and intentionally loving wife to her husband, Jerry, and a devoted Momma and Grammy. Her life was marked by steady faith, hard work, creativity, and a deep commitment to caring for those around her.
She loved the Lord and lived out her Christian faith in quiet, meaningful ways each day. Whether serving on the “Kitchen Crew” during Bible School at her church, preparing meals for others, or offering a listening ear to a friend, she demonstrated Christ’s love through action.
She was rarely still – always moving, always creating. A talented seamstress, she had a gift for turning fabric into beauty and ordinary things into something useful again. She found joy in repurposing and restoring, seeing potential where others might not. She loved sewing and quilting, thrift store shopping, and listening to music.
An exceptional cook whose kitchen was a gathering place. Her handmade gifts and home-cooked meals were expressions of generosity that were truly unmatched. She was a natural giver — thoughtful, intentional, and wholehearted in the way she cared for others.
One of Bonnie’s greatest joys was spending time with her granddaughter, Charli, by playing cards, cooking together, watching tik tok videos, and telling stories of her childhood from “back in the day”— moments that will forever be treasured.
She deeply valued friendship. She loved catching up with friends, both new and lifelong, and met once a month with the “Girls of ’64,” a group that meant so much to her.
She is survived by her husband, Jerry; her daughter, Kara Fulghum (Kane); step-daughters, Ann, Jacquelyn, and Susan; her granddaughter, Charli, brothers-in-law, Donald Jones and Bobby Fowler Sr., sisters-in-law, Shirley McCarty and Martha McCarty, and her many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her siblings, Josie Fowler, Annie Kile, Mary Davis, Janie Jones, Jimmy McCarty, Billy McCarty, Charles McCarty, and Polly Fowler.
Funeral Service will be Monday, February 16, 2026 at Friendship Baptist Church, Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m at the church and the funeral service will follow beginning at 2:00 p.m. Interment will be at Colbert City Cemetery immediately following.
Though we grieve her absence, we rejoice in knowing she is Home with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ and that we will see her again one day. Her legacy of faith, generosity, creativity, and love will continue to shape the lives of all who knew her.
