Betty Marie Lee Traylor, 90, passed away peacefully in Bogart, Georgia, on November 15th, surrounded by her family.
Betty was born in Chester County, South Carolina, where she attended Blackstock School, a small country school, from first grade to twelfth. She loved reminiscing about her school days with family and friends. She was a longtime, devoted member of Vineville Baptist Church in Macon, Georgia, where she was a member of the Rebecca Sunday School class and served in children’s and women’s ministry. Over the years, she worked in the office of Dr. Malcolm Marion of Chester, South Carolina; the media center at Northeast High School in Macon, Georgia; and at the Bibb County Extension Service, also in Macon.
Above all, she was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and homemaker. Her sweet spot was making occasions special for family and friends, from Sunday dinners, Clemson tailgating, and family reunions to holiday celebrations. She treasured family traditions, trips to Georgia and South Carolina beaches with her grandchildren, crafting and sewing clothes for her girls, working puzzles with her family, planning gatherings and outings for her homemakers’ club and church sisters, and in later years, playing tennis. At the center of her kindness was her love for Jesus and her desire to be his willing servant. Betty will be remembered for her kind and gracious spirit, sweet smile, and spry sense of humor. She made friends easily with everyone she met, especially children.
Betty is survived by her faithful and attentive husband of 68 years, Paul Wylie Traylor. She was the apple of his eye since the days of their childhood. She is also survived by her three adoring daughters, Eva Marie Shaw and her husband Robert; Ruthie Hite and her husband Brian; and Susan Jones and her husband Stephen; and eight grandchildren: Ashlee Marie Shaw, Brittany Shaw Wenzel (Tim), Robert Leon Shaw, Jr. (Alyssa), and Gabe Christian Shaw (Abbie); Abbey Lee Hite Orr (Paul); Emily Jones Driggers (Kenneth), Ellen Marie Jones, and Sadie Elizabeth Jones. Additionally, she is survived by her seven great-grandchildren. Betty leaves behind numerous precious nieces, nephews, and lots of very special, loving neighbors and friends, including the compassionate staff and caregivers at Agape Hospice Care in Clarke County and the Landing of Bogart (Georgia), who showered her with loving care and affection.
Betty was predeceased by her parents, William Thomas and Cora Marie Lee; four beloved brothers, Holly Walker Dinkins, James William Lee, Colvin Hollis Lee, and Joseph Harvey Lee; and four cherished sisters, Sadie Dinkins Cassels, Ruth Lee Roberts, Elizabeth Lee Wagers, and Mary Alice Lee McKeown; all of whom she loved dearly.
A celebration of life will be planned at a later date.
