Barbara Wickenden Peterson passed away April 11th at the age of 95. She held a Bachelor’s degree and a Master’s degree both in Arts and Sciences from Georgia State University and taught high school Social Studies in Fulton County. After moving from Atlanta to Athens in 1986, she became office manager and editorial associate for Athens Magazine. She lived a full life and enjoyed socializing with friends, traveling, reading, writing, cooking and gardening, and was an avid bridge player. She was an active and valued member of Ladies Garden Club (the first garden club in America) for 39 years.
She is predeceased by her beloved husband, Douglas Peterson. He was the true love of her life and they enjoyed 35 years together. She is survived by her children, Robert (Peggy) Marks, Melbourne Beach, FL, Gale (Easdon) Smith, Oakland CA, Tracey (Steve Muskat) Marks, Marietta GA, and Virginia (Philip) Scarborough, San Rafael, CA. She is predeceased by her daughter Holly Marks formerly of Atlanta.
Survivors also include grandchildren Magdalena de la Vega, Natalie Marks, Alexandria Smith, Peter Marks, Taylor and Grace Scarborough, and great-grandchildren Hunter Carroll and Holly and Mia de la Vega.
A memorial service will be held June 27 at 2:00 p.m. at Lord & Stephens Funeral Home, 4355 Lexington Road, Athens Georgia 30605.
