Arthur Dyer

May 31, 1953 — July 16, 2025

Winterville

Arthur "Art" Dyer, 72, passed away peacefully on July 16, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family.

Born in New York, Art was the son of the late Arthur W. Dyer and Hilda Hafner Dyer. As a child in a military family, he lived in several places around the world including Austria, France, and Germany with his younger sisters and parents before the Dyers eventually made their home in New Jersey. That's where Art found his footing — and his sense of fun. His first job as a paperboy was in Burlington County, New Jersey where he was awarded and recognized in the local paper for his daily dedication and hardworking nature. He spent his teenage years surfing and sailing on a catamaran at the beach on the Jersey shore, where he and his friends stirred up just the right amount of trouble and shared a lot of laughs. That beach always held a special place in his heart. Later he found a love for music, muscle cars, and collecting baseball cards.

Art spent over 30 years behind the wheel as a truck driver for McCollister's Transportation Group — a job that suited his love of the open road, a bottomless cup of Diet Coke, and a good all-you-can-eat buffet. After starting a family Art moved to north Georgia with his wife and daughters. At home, he was always working on a project, always in his element with a measuring tape in one hand, a tool in the other, and a honey-do list in mind. He found joy in providing a home, not just a house, and he made it a place full of warmth, humor, and love.

More than anything, Art loved stories - telling them, hearing them, watching them unfold. He was a big fan of westerns, sci-fi, mobster movies, and documentaries about history or the natural world. He could spin a tale like no other, and if you were lucky enough to sit next to him during one of his storytelling sessions, you probably walked away laughing (and possibly wondering which parts were actually true).

As a kid, summers were his favorite - especially when spent by the ocean, soaking up the sun, often with close friends and family nearby. Later in life he embodied the same spirit spending summer days in the pool at their home in Winterville.

Art is survived by the love of his life, his wife of 42 years, Deborah Rozek Dyer. He also leaves behind three daughters who adored him: Lindy Johnson (Joe Johnson), Alli Doss (Jon Doss), and Jess Dyer Anderson (Chris Anderson.) His sisters, Patricia Dyer and Janine Livingston, along with his brother-in-law Marty Livingston, will miss him dearly, as will many other extended family members and friends.

He was a man of quiet loyalty, quick wit, big hugs, and an even bigger heart. He'll be remembered not just for what he did, but for who he was a husband, a father, a brother, and a friend who showed up, loved deeply, and always kept things interesting.
