In the early morning hours of April 16, 2026, the precious soul of Amy Louise Houston Bryan departed this world and headed to her final destination with the Lord after a courageous battle with cancer. A beloved wife, stepmother, step-grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend, Amy was born December 10,1954, in Blakely, Georgia, to Grace Ott Houston and Paul Woodrow Houston Sr.
Amy is survived by her stepdaughters, Lindsay Bryan and Amanda Bryan, along with several step-grandchildren: Annabelle, Macayla, Joshua, Samantha, and Matthew; nephew Paul Woodrow Houston III (Stacy); niece Tina Houston Coggins (Chuck); niece Tracy Houston Coggins (Andy); niece Audrey Lynn Bryan; nephew John Bryan; nephew William Bryan; along with many great and great-great nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Angela Denmark Houston (Woodrow Jr.) and brothers-in-law, Edsel Bryan (Polly) and Joseph Bryan.
Amy was preceded in death by her husband, Mac Dunn Bryan, her parents Paul Woodrow and Grace (Ott) Houston Sr., her brothers, Paul Woodrow Houston Jr. and Leo Cook Houston.
Amy often referred to herself as a “lifelong learner.” She graduated from Early County High School and went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in family and consumer science at the University of Georgia. She then earned a Master of Business Administration degree from Brenau University. She later would earn an Interdisciplinary Certificate in Sustainability at the University of Georgia. After retirement, Amy enrolled in Charis Bible College and recently earned her diploma in biblical studies.
Amy had an extensive career in residential utility marketing. She received recognition for her industry knowledge and expertise. As a business development officer with Oglethorpe Power, she pioneered home automation while building water heating and heat pump energy efficiency programs. Through her vision and leadership as director of residential marketing, she created programs branding Jackson EMC as a leader in residential marketing.
A devoted member of Grace Fellowship Church in Bogart, Amy was actively involved in her ladies Sunday school class. She also enjoyed volunteering for the Samaritan’s Purse organization. Her faith and dedication to her church community were evident in all she did. To know Amy was to love her. She touched many people’s lives with her kindness, generosity, her sweet spirit, and that beautiful smile. Amy was a ray of sunshine even on the cloudiest of days.
The family will receive friends for visitation at Lord and Stephens Funeral Home in Watkinsville on Wednesday, April 22, 2026, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. A funeral service will be held at Grace Fellowship Athens in Bogart on Thursday, April 23, 2026, at 11 a.m. Amy will be laid to rest in the Blakely Cemetery on April 24, 2026, at 1 p.m.
The pallbearers will be Paul W. Houston III, Charles T. Coggins Jr., Andrew L. Coggins, Charles T. Coggins III (Trey), Jacob A. Coggins and Luke Houston Coggins.
