Alma Huff Noell was born in Watkinsville to the late Emmitt Huff and Lois Hardigree Huff on February 16, 1938. She passed away at the age of 85 on October 26, 2023 following emerging health issues that even Alma’s determination could not overcome. Her sister and brother-in-law, Mamie H. and Joe S. Swann, and great-nephew, Alex Swann, also preceded her in death.
Survivors include her beloved husband, Tom (Thomas E. Noell), whom she married on May 31, 1969. She is also survived by her nephew David Lee (Tammy) Swann of Jefferson, GA; great-nephews Holden (Amber) Swann and David (Larrisa) Poole; great-great-nephews Samuel Swann, Mason Poole, and Chevy Thompson; cousins and close-as-family friends and neighbors.
Alma worked in the medical office of Dr. Dillard Nix for thirty years. The next season of work, spanning twenty-eight years, brought her great joy as a care provider in her home for numerous area children. Children thrived the first year of their lives in her rocking chair and under her watchful eye.
Alma was proud to say that her membership at First Christian Church spanned seventy-one years of her life. She and Tom were faithful in worship, service and stewardship. Her work at the church - her gift of time - was a mission of service which provided assistance, support, record keeping, friendship, and communication to church family members for decades.
Alma had a servant’s heart. Her gifts, cards, treats from her kitchen, phone calls and visits built strong and life-long relationships. She was God’s child, a loving wife, sister, aunt, neighbor, and friend.
As the aging process and illnesses changed the weekly habits of shopping, delivering roasted chicken, chocolate pudding, or the Bulldog Illustrated to friends, and sending notes and cards for every occasion, she maintained connections. She was the dependable one to make phone calls to check on others or to keep them updated with news from the church, neighborhood, family, and friends.
Alma leaves a legacy of caring outreach. To honor her legacy - make a list, send a card, love a child, call a neighbor, clean up behind yourself, and wear an apron!
