Allen Gunter, 84, passed away surrounded by his family on Sunday, January 4, 2026.
Born in Greene County, he was one of 12 children born to David Gipson Gunter and Georgia Lou Higginbotham Gunter. Allen was a faithful member of Whitehall Baptist Church. He was an avid outdoorsman with a passion for fishing and a love for gardening but most importantly, he adored his family. Allen was a cherished husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Brenda Wills Gunter and 10 of his siblings, John, Gertrude, Mozelle, Mae, Nina, Nell, David, Ed, Bob and Susie.
Survivors include his second wife, Patricia Bryan Gunter; daughter, Kelly Gunter Craven (Sam); step-children, Shelly Holeman (Neal) and Wesley Bryant (Shonda); sister, Helen Johnson; grandchildren, Chatham Craven, McCord Craven, Colt Holeman (Jessica), Lucas Holeman, Clint Holeman, Storm Bryant (Morgan), Briar Bryant and Keira Bryant and great-grandchildren, Raelyn and Ryder Holeman and Octavia Bryant.
Funeral services will be Thursday, January 8, 2026 at 2:00 pm at Lord and Stephens, Danielsville with Rev. Jimmy Edwards officiating. Interment will follow in the Colbert City Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Allen’s grandsons, McCord Craven, Colt Holeman, Lucas Holeman, Clint Holeman, Briar Bryant and his nephew, Cody Patridge and honorary pallbearers will be members of the Whitehall Baptist Church Adult Sunday School Class. The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 12:00 pm.
