Alex Kenneth Wages, age 47, of Mableton, Georgia, passed away on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, after battling a long journey with cancer. He now resides with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. 

A native of Athens, Georgia, and a longtime resident of Oconee County, Alex was the son of Jerry Kenneth Wages and Rebecca “Becky” McClung Wages of Watkinsville, Georgia. In addition to his parents, he is survived by his sister, Alison L. Wages of Athens; uncles Randall E. Wages of Albany, Georgia, and Tony D. Wages of Athens; aunts Susan C. Wages of Albany and Brenda M. Cleveland of Athens; along with many beloved cousins. 

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Joseph E. Wages and Farrah Hopkins Wages; his maternal grandparents, Earl A. McClung and Edna Fuller McClung; an uncle, Douglas V. McClung; and an aunt, Agatha F. McClung. 

Alex was a loving son and a caring brother. His faith in God was strong, and he faithfully supported Eager Avenue Grace Church in Albany, Georgia. He was an avid fan of the University of Georgia Bulldogs and all Dawg sports. To honor Alex’s love for UGA football, those attending his memorial service are encouraged to wear red and black. 

Alex was a loyal friend with a strong work ethic. He was a gifted problem solver, meticulous in his attention to detail, kind-hearted, and compassionate. Alex was a 1997 graduate of Oconee County High School. He earned a Bachelor of Business Administration degree with a major in Computer-Based Information Systems from Georgia College & State University. He also received his Certified Local Government Manager certification from the Carl Vinson Institute of Government at the University of Georgia. 

Alex began his professional career as a Network Engineer at Athens Micro, serving from July 1997 to December 2002. He then served as Technology Services Director for the City of Winder, Georgia, from December 2002 until April 2016. From May 2016 until 2026, he served as Senior Director of IT Operations and Enterprise Logistics at Aveanna Healthcare in Atlanta, Georgia. 

Memorial services will be held on Thursday, February 12, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Lord & Stephens Funeral Home, WEST, located at 1211 Jimmy Daniel Road, Watkinsville, Georgia 30677, with Pastor Bill Parker officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Honorary pallbearers will be Hal Jackson, Drew Pilgrim, Stuart Kimball, John Nelson, Jason Hutchins, Justin Bailey, and T.J. Brown. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Jimmy V Foundation.
