Leonard Elliot Templeton died peacefully at Piedmont Athens Regional Hospital on Sunday, March 12 after a brief illness. He was 78 years old.
Born to the late William and Virginia Templeton, Leonard was raised in Mathews, GA. He attended Wrens High School, Middle Georgia College and graduated from The University of Georgia Pharmacy School. He worked as a pharmacist as well as a sales representative for Eli Lilly Pharmaceutical Company for 27 years. After his retirement he continued to serve as a relief pharmacist and as a UGA alumni he served on the admissions team at the UGA College of Pharmacy. He was a member of the R.C. Wilson Pharmacy Association. Leonard was a long time member of Tuckston United Methodist Church where he served faithfully as an usher.
Leonard was an avid golfer and enjoyed countless hours on the golf course with friends and family. He was an enthusiastic supporter of the UGA Bulldogs and was excited about the back to back football titles! He loved the outdoors, particularly, hunting and fishing and passed along his enthusiasm for those activities to his sons.
Leonard is survived by his wife Blanche of 57 years; his sons Charles Templeton and wife Ashley of Watkinsville, GA and William (Bill) Templeton and wife Tracy of Suwanee, GA. His grandchildren include Ryan, Rebecca Anne (Nick), Davis and Sanders. He is also survived by his brother Wayne Templeton and wife Marcia of Dublin, GA as well as several nephews and a niece.
Funeral services are to be held on Saturday, March 18 at 2:00 pm at Tuckston United Methodist Church. A private family burial will precede the service and family visitation and a reception will follow. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Leonard’s memory to Tuckston United Methodist Church at 4175 Lexington Road, Athens, GA 30605.
