As a resident of Americus, Georgia, she was a teacher of English and Latin, retiring from Southland Academy in 1998. She served as Treasurer of the Hat and Hoe Garden Club for many years, and enjoyed travelling and cheering for her beloved Georgia Bulldogs. She was often found with a crossword puzzle in her hand, and was active in each of the churches she attended in her life.

She was married on April 30, 1960 to her surviving husband, Dwight L. “Bucky” Bliss, Jr. Survivors in addition to her husband include her daughter, Lisa McMichael and husband Allen of Dublin, GA, and her son Trey Bliss, and wife Cheri of Athens, GA.
