Obituary for Michael Allen Turner Sr.

Michael Allen Turner Sr.
Michael Allen Turner, Sr. passed away on March 23, 2017 in Atlanta, Georgia. He was born in Atlanta, Georgia on November 13 and was a graduate of Gordon High School in Decatur and Georgia State University in Atlanta. He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War.

In 1970 he married Barbara Aguilar of Sierra Vista, Arizona, whom he met while stationed at Fort Huachuca. They returned to Atlanta and settled in Duluth to raise their family. Mike worked for Bell South and as a construction contractor. He was a member of the Duluth Jaycees, and an active member of the Georgia Masonic Lodge, Shrine and Scottish Rite.

Mike was an avid sports fan, especially of baseball. He played as a young boy in Decatur and was a pitcher of slow pitch softball as an adult. In addition, he was active in coaching youth baseball. He especially loved watching the Atlanta Braves and the Georgia Bulldogs and spent many weekends in Athens with friends and family.

Mike is preceded in death by his father, Harry. He is survived by his wife Barbara, to whom he was married for 46 years; his daughter Michele of Athens, Georgia; son Michael, Jr. of Atlanta, Georgia and grandchildren Nathan and Mckinsey; mother Martha; sister Cheryl (Wayne) and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Family will receive friends at Lord & Stephens, 4355 Lexington Road, Athens, Georgia for visitation on Saturday, April 22 from 10:30 a.m. until 12noon. Visitation will be followed by a memorial service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to Wounded Warrior Project or Scottish Rite Hospital in Atlanta.

“Mike Sr.” was loved by all that were fortunate to know him and will be greatly missed.
